Brothers Motorsports began its journey in 1989 when the late Steve Vandeputte opened Brainerd Yamaha. Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo were added to the lineup in the early ’90s, and the purchase of Brainerd Honda in 1992 brought another brand—and building—into the family. Steve continued to run the Yamaha store while his younger brother, Chris Vandeputte, managed Brainerd Honda.

In 1997, the two brothers combined their stores, creating Brothers Motorsports—a name that reflects the family-oriented atmosphere they strived to bring to every customer experience. With the addition of more brands, the dealership expanded in 2000 by purchasing a neighboring building, now showcasing over 200 machines indoors.

In September 2025, Bill Bradford of Bradford Powersports purchased Brothers Motorsports to carry on the Vandeputte legacy.

Bill, a lifelong entrepreneur, powersports enthusiast, and passionate philanthropist, is excited to bring his experience and energy to the Baxter community. He and his wife, Lisa, along with their family, have had a home on the Whitefish Chain since 2010. The Brainerd Lakes area holds a special place in their hearts, and they are proud to invest in a community that already feels like home.
